Dr. Brian Lemoff

West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation

Dr. Brian E. Lemoff is the WVHTC Foundation’s Vice President for Advanced Technologies. Dr. Lemoff leads a multidisciplinary group of researchers working on projects in optics, signal processing, biometrics, pulsed power electronics, and plasma physics. Lemoff is formerly the WVHTC Foundation’s Director of Physical Sciences and Technology.

Prior to joining the WVHTC Foundation in 2005, Dr. Lemoff worked for 11 years at Hewlett Packard and Agilent Laboratories in Palo Alto, California. While at HP and Agilent Labs, he led numerous R&D efforts in the area of compact high-bandwidth optical interconnects, including the SpectraLAN project that became the basis for one of the primary optical solutions in the IEEE 10-Gigabit Ethernet Standard and the MAUI project that demonstrated a 500-Gbit/sec optical data link for high-performance computer backplanes. Dr. Lemoff received his Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University in 1994. For his doctoral work in the areas of ultra-short pulses and X-ray lasers, Lemoff was awarded the 1995 American Physical Society Award for Outstanding Doctoral Research in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. Lemoff received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Caltech in 1989. He has authored or co-authored more than 65 papers and conference presentations, and he has been issued 31 U.S. patents.
