It’s been called “the Monster.com of the government contracting world” and thousands of registered users will agree: Department of Defense TechMatch –www.dodtechmatch.com – is a must-see for anyone looking to do business with the United States military. Access to the web portal is free, easy, and it’s always up-to-date.

About DoD TechMatch
DoD TechMatch is a DoD Partnership Intermediary, designed to interact with small businesses and institutions of higher education and to assist the DoD in its technology transfer and transition missions.

DoD TechMatch is a no-fee, web portal that facilitates technology deployment collaboration by providing information and identifying opportunities (through FedBizOpps, Grants.gov, and SBIR/STTR solicitations), licensable patents, and current technology needs using a unique keyword matching function.

DoD TechMatch provides a centralized location to find information on 120 Defense labs across the U.S., including a way to contact technology transfer decision makers at these labs.

It also identifies calendar events and hot technologies – technologies with high commercial potential that the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) would like to move out of the labs using any of the technology transfer mechanisms (licenses, cooperative agreements, etc.).

DoD TechMatch effectively takes a wide variety of source material, organizes it in a way that provides a single access point for government entities and the public, keeps it up to date, and makes it relevant to multiple information consumers.

Significant Accomplishments:

The DoD TechMatch portal has achieved the following milestones:

  • 9,000-plus registered users, averaging three minutes per visit
  • Averaging 61,000-plus unique site visits per month
  • Four technology transfer deals facilitated in past eight months
  • Provided 3.2 million SBIR opportunity matches to users within two years
  • Winner of FLC Mid-Atlantic Industry Award
  • Winner FLC Far West Outstanding Partner Award

IPMIS: Intellectual Property Management for the DoD
Currently in development is the DoD Intellectual Property Management Information System (DoD IPMIS), a DoD-wide system that facilitates laboratory technology transfer.

DoD IPMIS is designed to help government laboratory technology transfer managers and patent attorneys track a technology from initial invention disclosure to patent expiration. It will be used to track US Patent and Trademark Office and internal action items, providing a system that is consistent across the entire Department – a never-before-available single information source for a Laboratory’s technology portfolio.

Technology transfer managers will be able to use the system to track patent license agreements, royalties, and action items related to those patent license agreements.

DoD IPMIS works with a diverse customer set, brings them to consensus, and designs and delivers a product that meets their combined approval.

OTTPIN: One-stop deal management for the DoD
Office of Technology Transfer Partnership Intermediary Network (OTTPIN) is a web portal deal management tool for Technology Managers that provides a single location for viewing patents, leads, and the deals and opportunities managers currently have in progress.

OTTPIN is a web portal that specifically fosters interactions between DoD’s Partnership Intermediaries (PI), facilitates Patent Pipeline Reload Meetings, and assists PI employees in tracking technology transfer and transition agreements, leads, and deals.

In addition to viewing patents and leads, OTTPIN is particularly useful in helping managers document leads, upload documents, assign and track action items, set and receive reminders, and share information.

OTTPIN supports a number of DoD Partnership Intermediaries, located across the U.S. from Alaska to South Carolina, by creating the collaborative software used to help manage deal flow. The OTTPIN system provides functionality common to each PI in a web-based environment that accommodates different time zones and working hours.
